Karyn Rosner

Discovering Jewish Family Ancestry

Karyn Rosner was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised on Long Island.  The daughter of an immigrant father from Poland who moved with his family after World War 1, and an American born mother with descendants from Vilnius (Vilna), Lithuania, Karyn completed her studies at Gallaudet College (Gallaudet University) and New York University, and lived in Canada while raising her two children: a CODA daughter, and Deaf son.  For the past four decades, Karyn has been involved in several civic organizations.  Along with coordinating workshops and programs for the National Congress of the Jewish Deaf in 1994, Karyn spent 36 years in Deaf Education, recently retiring and returning full time to her passion for researching ancestral lineages.  Her research has uncovered a wealth of information piecing together the details of what happened to her ancestors who were forced to leave their home countries.  Karyn is also profiled in Deaf Heritage of Canada (1996) and Deaf Women Canada (2002).
